The Co-lead Initiative also expressed its commitment to facilitate at the COP29 Peace, Relief, and Recovery Day “solutions-oriented discussions on the key issues of water scarcity, food insecurity, land degradation and restoration, as well as climate-related migration as a cross-cutting issue”. Building on the highlights put on the topic of “climate and peace nexus” at previous COPs, in particular COP28 Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery, and Peace, the Initiative co-lead by the Group together with the Azerbaijani COP29 Presidency envisages to deliver concrete outcomes to open up “avenues for scaling up support and finance for the most affected countries facing multiple challenges due to climate change, conflict and fragility” such as joint call on the urgency of climate action for peace and a center of excellence type of platform to deepen dialogue and understanding, and foster further action on the peace and climate nexus.
