COP29 Volunteers

COP29 volunteers are a dedicated group of individuals committed to advancing global sustainability and climate action. Our volunteers hail from a variety of backgrounds, representing the conference while championing environmental stewardship and ensuring the smooth operation of COP29. Through their work, they help foster collaboration, assist delegates, and contribute to the conference’s success while embodying the spirit of climate responsibility.

Basic Requirements for Volunteering

  • To become part of the COP29 volunteer team, individuals were required to:
  • Demonstrate a passion for climate action and sustainability.
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be adaptable, resilient, and able to work in dynamic environments.
  • Show respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Commit to pre-event training and to volunteering for the duration of the event.
  • Be proficient in English, with additional language skills considered an asset.

Volunteer Recruitment

Our volunteers have been meticulously selected through a detailed process to ensure their suitability for each specific role. Those who applied via our online portal were invited to interviews after an initial selection phase to assess their suitability for the event. Volunteers who successfully passed the interviews were accepted into the programme. Following the final selection, our volunteers engaged in various training programmes and were assigned specific roles that effectively aligned with their skills and COP29 requirements.

Training Programmes

Volunteers received comprehensive training to ensure they were equipped to contribute effectively. These programmes included:

  • General Training: Focused on general information about COP29, the history of COP, code of conduct and volunteer responsibilities.
  • Role-Specific Training: Tailored to the specific duties of each volunteer, from managing registration desks to crowd control.
  • Venue Training: Hands-on practice at the event venue, covering emergency protocols and event logistics.
  • E-Learning Modules: Volunteers completed online training sessions at their own pace, covering key topics such as sustainability practices, volunteer etiquette, and COP29 procedures.
  • Personal Development Training: Focused on skills such as communication, leadership, and time management, enriching both the volunteer experience and personal growth.
Events for Volunteers

At COP29, we believe in creating meaningful experiences for our volunteers beyond their day-to-day responsibilities. By organising events with and for them, we aim to strengthen community bonds, enhance their learning experience, and celebrate their contributions to the success of the conference. These events provide opportunities for volunteers to engage with one another, build valuable skills, and gain recognition for their hard work.
