COP29 Presidency: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Holds Seminar in Baku

A training seminar is underway in Baku on the IPCC Inventory Software and the UNFCCC Reporting Mechanism, organised jointly by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Environment Programme, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as part of the climate transparency initiatives laid out by the COP29 Presidency.

The gathering aims to raise awareness among local and foreign experts and provide support with the skills needed to use the accountability mechanism introduced by the UNFCCC, and the new IPCC software for calculating greenhouse gas emissions, in order to prepare Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR).

Addressing the opening of the seminar, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources, Umayra Taghiyeva, said that enhancing knowledge to ensure climate transparency and provide inventories of greenhouse gas emissions would be of great importance in the fight against climate change.

The three-day training seminar is attended by specialists from more than 100 countries, alongside representatives of the relevant state agencies of Azerbaijan.
